Tab Show features two distinct Lucky Plush excerpts which highlight the company's signature blend of layered choreography, witty dialog, and socially relevant storytelling. Along with a favorite remixed Lucky Push excerpt, the company will premiere Rink Life, a collaboration between artistic director Julia Rhoads and vocalist and composer Bethany Clearfield (Grant Park Chorus, Chicago Symphony Chorus, and the band Outertown). Rink Life, inspired by classic roller rink culture, reveals a world in which people seamlessly move between anonymity and community, individual stylings and group dynamics, movement and song. The sound design is generated entirely by the performers and builds upon the disparate fragments of information—partially overheard conversations, musical scales, pop-song eagworms—that a person assembles to make meaning in their everyday life.
In conjunction with the Friday, April 27 performance of Tab Show, Lucky Plush hosts its annual benefit bash, PLUCKY LUSH 2018. Enjoy a pre-show cocktail (6:30-7:30pm), repertoire performance (7:30pm – 9pm), and mingle with the artists in the Level 1 lobby for heavy apps and bottomless drinks (9-11pm).
During the second intermission, there will be an opportunity for audience members to support the company through a paddle raise in the theater, inviting audience members to contribute directly to the performers' salaries, health stipends, and designer wages.
Tab Show is generously supported by the Chauncey and Marion D. McCormick Family Foundation, Abby McCormick O’Neil and D. Carroll Joynes through a rental subsidy at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
Lucky Plush is a 2017/18 Resident Company at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance
