Grant Writer/Manager

Two dance-based Chicago 501(c)(3) organizations, Lucky Plush Productions and Joel Hall Dancers & Center, together seek to hire and share one part time (16-20 hours per week) Grant Writer/Manager who will conduct the full range of responsibilities required to prepare, submit, and manage multiple grant proposals on behalf of both companies.

MacArthur Award-winning Lucky Plush Productions is an internationally touring dance-theater company that provokes, inspires, and entertains audiences through its layered choreography, surprising humor, and socially relevant storytelling. Since 2000, Lucky Plush has created 30 original dance-theater works including 14 evening-length productions. In addition to regularly performing in Chicago, the company has presented work in over 40 US cities from Maine to Hawaii, and its international partners span from New Zealand to Cuba.

Since 1974, Joel Hall Dancers & Center (JHDC) has expressed contemporary urban life through dance while educating, entertaining, and inspiring audiences. Artistic Director Emeritus Joel Hall has created more than 70 ballets for his own company, including the annual Chicago favorite, Nuts & Bolts. JHDC maintains a citywide, national, and international reputation for its innovation, substantive sociological content and engaging aesthetic. Both JHDC and its audiences exhibit a rare diversified spectrum of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.


  • Research, identify, develop, and respond to public and private grant opportunities relevant to both company’s needs

  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donor

  • Maintain and manage grant records, including tracking and reporting

  • Familiarize oneself with the history, mission, objectives, and financial needs of both organizations

  • Provide additional professional/administrative support when required

Skills & Requirements:

  • BA in Communications, English, or related/relevant discipline

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent use of grammar

  • Ability to meet deadlines/manage multiple grant timelines

  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors

  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research
