Joining DKAF for a third time, the company culminates a week-long residency with an informal presentation of FACING, a new Lucky Plush original work.
Lucky Plush is developing a new dance-theater work and we'd love for you to attend a work-in-progress showing. As you may know these early showings are crucial parts of our process as we learn about the work in relationship with audiences. More info about the project below.
Friday June 27, 7:30p
Saturday, June 28, 2:00p
Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th Street, Theater West
Space is limited, so please RSVP at the link above and you will receive an email confirmation. If you have any questions, you can email Julia Rhoads at julia@luckyplush.com
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Inspired by an early Eugene O’Neill play, FACING takes up forms of contemporary masking in highly mediated relationships, resulting in a strange farce of mixed up identities and a literal and metaphorical missing body.
This residency is supported by the Arts Labs research project at the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society and Theater & Performance Studies at the University of Chicago.
Conceived and directed by Julia Rhoads & Leslie Buxbaum
Created in collaboration with the ensemble: Marc Macaranas, Melinda Myers, Jacinda Ratcliffe, Michel Rodriguez, Meghann Wilkinson
Projection design by Liviu Pasare and Mark Comiskey
Sound design by Michael Caskey
Workshop lighting design by Garrett Bell
Stage Management by Kevin Rechner
Scenic and technical support by Ben Caracello
Additional media support from Logan Media Center

A fierce duet between two women, Knockout is a self-possessed, ever-morphing cinematic dance work contending with the nature of the liminal : a provocative study of the space between desire, intimacy, strength, and survival.
Erin Kilmurray + Kara Brody’s choreographic graphic novel jump-cuts through a thrill-ride of fight sequences, self defense training, toothful camp, odd obsessions, and partnerships that sidestep tidy categorization.
Intoxicating, heart-stopping, and surreal, Knockout exists inside of the disorienting moment after the point of contact but just before hitting the floor.
TKO, baby.

Come as you are, and move as you need. This low-stakes gathering offers a high-play environment pulling from post-modern, somatic, and release based forms. We will activate the space through a series of short sequences that progress from the floor to standing. With an emphasis on finding efficient ways of moving, this class cycles through momentum driven physicality that is often off-centered, in spiral, and grounded.
Meghann’s teaching style is focused on finding efficiency and reinforcing healthy patterns in the body while fostering a space of co-creation and safe exploration. Drawing from codified modern dance techniques such as Cunningham, Limon, and Release technique, as well as ballet, jazz, and rhythmic forms, Meghann’s class includes follow-along and improvisational prompts to guide warming up and dropping in, structured work for strength-building and alignment awareness, and built and developed phrase material for big locomotion, shared musicality, and joy. Meghann brings her 20 years of experience teaching in Chicago and working with Lucky Plush Productions to create a dance class rooted in self-expression, play, and curiosity.
In this release-oriented class, dancers will explore ease, fluidity, and efficiency in energetic pathways into and out of the floor. Dancers can expect to move thickly and quickly, engage in phrasework that is shapely and shapeless, and challenge their relationship to space, momentum and velocity.

Join us on October 19th at 5:00pm for an excerpt performance of Right Here created by Melinda Jean Myers in collaboration with Lucky Plush ensemble members and composer/musician Lex Leto.
This performance is part of the Threading the Needle: The Connection between Clothing and Climate event, co-hosted in collaboration with local non-profits Chicago Fair Trade and Empowerment Collective. What we wear has a major impact on the planet and on the people who make our clothes. This inspiring evening at the Climate Action Museum discusses these critical issues offering insight to how we can be part of the global movement to build a better, fairer clothing industry.
Lucky Plush Productions presents an excerpt of Right Here, created by Melinda Jean Myers in collaboration with Lucky Plush ensemble members and composer/musician Lex Leto. This dance-theater-rock-musical explores how the body holds opposing states of motivation and apathy, abundance and loss, and hope and despair during a climate crisis. Through visual storytelling and shared choreographies, the ensemble seeks a roadmap for greater awareness and collective action.
This free public festival activates Millennium Park with world-class performances from Harris Theater Resident Companies, visiting artists, and community partners, celebrating theater’s legacy of artistic evolution, innovation, and collaboration.
